Event Description

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see aspiring project management students in action at a PMI® Baltimore dinner meeting held at the UMBC Technology Center Building located on UMBC's South Campus!

Featured speakers to include: CARL PRITCHARD, RICK HAMMOND, LEAH ZIMMERMAN AND JOSHUA HERRING (see Expert Panel bios below)

This event will feature presentations on the top project management challenges and discuss tools and resources to overcome them. It will include a number of vendors and exhibitors offering an array of free resources, books, tools, and templates, as well as demonstration of trial software and other project management solutions for meeting attendees.

Graduate students from UMBC's Graduate Engineering Management Project Management Fundamentals Course (ENMG 650), under the direction of their instructor, Anita Griner, MBA, PMP®, invite you to attend their event, “Real PM Solutions: Top Project Management Challenges and Resources You Can Use!”

In order to be an effective project manager, you must have a solid understanding of the discipline and methodology (learning from lectures, PMBOK® and written information) but you must also gain “hands-on” experience performing project management activities in order to truly develop your project management skills.

This event is the culmination of a semester-long effort where the students learn and apply project management concepts to initiate, plan, execute, monitor/control, and close a real PMI site event project. The purpose of this assignment is to enable students to “flex their project management muscles”; to put project management concepts they are learning in class to use in real-time.

During the semester, students will carry out their project as they work through the project management concepts -- through teamwork, presentations, and the execution and evaluation of the project. The students are responsible for identifying and recruiting event vendors and exhibitors, and all aspects of initiation, planning, execution, monitoring/controlling and closing to include the production and management of various project management documents to include; Project Charter, Requirements Document, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) (graphical & indented list formats), Schedule, Risk Management Plan, Risk Register, Change Management Process, Change Request Form and Log, Lessons Learned, Action Item Log and more.

You can see the student’s work, as it develops, at their Project Website. See the project schedule, which risks have been identified, lessons learned, and much more!
