| A message from the VP of Programs | ||||||

Dear PMI Baltimore Chapter member, In the last year we increased our programming with dinner and lunch meetings beyond the traditional six meetings alternating between Elkridge and Timonium. We currently have 22 meetings scheduled for this year and we are planning the 2006 schedule with speakers from PMI headquarters and other notable guest speakers similar to Carl Pritchard. Our locations have increased to include Annapolis and Baltimore City in an effort to bring programming closer to your work or home location. There is a significant amount of time and cost invested on the part of the chapter and speakers to make these meetings occur. As Carl Pritchard would put it, “shared knowledge is power”, and that’s what this message is all about. The PMI Baltimore Chapter’s main intent for the dinner and lunch meetings is to be cost neutral, except for the speaker recognition, and to insure that each member has a meal. Cost neutral means “that the cost of the meal covers the total expense”, which may comprise of meal, room, and any audiovisual equipment such as screen, etc. The current catering process requires that we will provide a count of the number of meals three days in advance and this is what the chapter is required to pay. Unfortunately, whenever a member does not cancel or cancels during the fixed interval, the chapter is still liable for the member’s total cost of the meal.

We bring this to your attention because recent events have had up to 25% no shows. This has cost the chapter $750.00 without any benefit to the membership. The current $21.00 does not even cover the cost of the meal. If we are to grow the chapter’s programming and bring meetings closer to our member areas as your surveys indicate, it is now necessary that we implement the following items:
We are all volunteers and focused on expanding the chapter’s programming by providing educational, career, and personal growth opportunities to PMI Baltimore chapter membership. Your support in this matter is much appreciated and comments can be sent to jkos@pmibaltimore.com.
