Business Value of Agile Methods: Using ROI & Real Options

Dr. David Rico will provide a brief introduction to Agile Methods, an overview of popular Agile Methods, and a brief survey of the benefits of Agile Methods as reported by major industry studies (including rarely seen, late-breaking economic data and results from the top consulting firms). He will present a survey of costs and benefits, a suite of metrics for quantifying business value, a discussion of parametric models, a methodology for estimating ROI, and a comparison of 11 major Agile and Traditional Methods. The results of this briefing have been published in a major international journal and a new book entitled, "Business Value of Agile Software Methods: Maximizing ROI with Just-in-Time Processes and Documentation" (http://davidfrico.com/agile-book.htm) Dr. David F. Rico has been a technical leader in support of NASA, DARPA, DISA, SPAWAR, USAF, AFMC, NAVAIR, CECOM, and MICOM for over 25 years. He has led, managed, or participated in over 20 organization change initiatives using Agile Methods, Lean Six Sigma, ISO 9001, CMMI, SW-CMM, Enterprise Architecture, Baldrige, and DoD 5000. He specializes in information technology (IT) investment analysis, IT project management, and IT-enabled change. He has been an international keynote speaker, presented at leading industry conferences, published numerous articles, and written or contributed to six textbooks. He’s a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM). Dr. Rico teaches doctoral and master’s courses at three Washington, DC-area universities and has been in the field of information systems since 1983.

Time and Location Information

Meeting starts with Networking at 6:00pm followed by dinner and the presentation for an hour. Meeting normally ends by 9:00pm.

Meeting Information

The PMI Baltimore Chapter hosts monthly dinner meetings and bi-monthly luncheon meetings.

Dinner meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month and alternate between the Crowne Plaza in Timonium MD and the Ramada Inn BWI in Hanover MD. They start at 6:00 PM.

We will be having bi-monthly Annapolis dinner meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Carrol's Creek Cafe. The Annapolis meetings start at 5:30 with an hour for networking, dinner starts at 6:30, and the presentation starts at 7:30.

We will also be having a bi-monthly dinner meeting in the Salisbury, MD area on the alternating months on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Adam's the Place for Ribs restaurant in Fruitland. The Eastern Shore dinner meetings start at 6:00 PM.

Every other month, we will be meeting in Frederick, MD, at the Red Horse Steak House. Networking starts at 6pm, with dinner at 7pm, and a presentation starting promptly at 8pm.

We also hold luncheon meetings in Columbia, MD on the fourth Monday of the month at the Howard County Business Center, 6751 Columbia Gateway, Columbia, MD 21046. These meetings start at 11:30 AM. Please note that payment for the Columbia luncheon meeting is at the door. Online payment via PayPal is currently not available for the Columbia luncheon meetings.

We also have events at NASA Space Flight Facility at Wallops Island, VA and at Aberdeen, MD.
