From the Director of Volunteers

Below are the volunteering positions now open. Where noted, the position does not require you to be a PMP. If you are not yet certified, you can earn instructional hours in lieu of PDU’s. Please give a short description of your qualifications for the positions in which you are interested. You may show interest in more than one position.

  1. The PMI Baltimore Chapter is staring a Mentoring/Protégé program and they need a volunteer(s) to run this program. This position will be on-going throughout the year and broken down into manageable segments. The volunteers will report to VP of Membership and can earn up to 10 PDU’s. You must be PMP certified and an active member of the PMI Baltimore Chapter to take on this position. Below are the duties of this volunteering position:
    • PDU setup (work with PMI to setup as a training program)
    • Define mentor/mentee contracts (will require engaging a lawyer to ensure verbiage to avoid liability issues)
    • Define and administer mentor/mentee selection and pairing process
    • Create a Mediation committee to address any differences of opinion between mentors and mentees
    • Update the Chapter bylaws/policies as needed
    • Manage and administer the mentoring program
    • Periodic review for improvement
  2. PMI Baltimore Chapter will be participating in the PMI Education Foundation Campaign to raise funding for local scholarships. Attached is the strategic plan for the campaign and how the Chapter will support this effort. We are looking for three volunteers to represent the Baltimore Chapter as Campaign Captain, Chapter Liaison, and Development Manager. You will find job descriptions and qualification requirements attached (Development Manager is in the Plan and Structure document). The exact number of PDU’s earned for these volunteer positions is not yet known, but will be shared shortly. You do not have to be PMP Certified or a member of the Baltimore Chapter to take advantage of this opportunity.
  3. The Board is looking for three volunteers to investigate the feasibility of a permanent location for the PMI Baltimore Chapter. This could be rental space or the purchase of a site that may need some renovation. The preliminary requirements for the space is enough room for a 30 student class room/Boardroom and space for three offices plus a admin position and the required 400 sq ft storage space and reproduction facilities. We are hoping to find a location in the Baltimore City area. The volunteers would investigate the available rental/purchase either commercial or office site location and determine a preliminary office space plan for the site. They would present the best plan to the Board; Rent or Buy, then determine the budget, obtain approval, and see the project to conclusion. The project timeline is approximately 3-6 months for the investigation portion and another 3-6 months to project completion depending on the selected option. You will earn 5 PDU’s for working on this project. You do not have to be PMP Certified for this position.

If you would like to be considered for one or more of the above positions, please send me an e-mail letting me know which position(s) you want to be considered for.

A survey of PMI Baltimore Chapter members identified two main reasons members join the PMI are to network with other professionals and obtain PDUs. One way to network, obtain PDUs, as well as other perks, is by volunteering. I would like to introduce myself as the Director of Volunteers, appointed by the Board to improve the process of communicating volunteering opportunities and getting members involved. I will be communicating upcoming events as well as serving as your point of contact for submitting areas of interest. Volunteering events include seminar and meeting coordination, training, technical support, membership recruiting and communications as well as assisting with special events and projects. As volunteering opportunities arise, I will post information such as necessary skills, required hours, location, and PDUs earned, so you can make sure this is a match for you. If you want to be one of the first members to see these opportunities via e-mails, please send an e-mail with the following information: Name/Nickname, are you PMP certified, areas of interest, and a brief description of your qualifications, skills, and strengths. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the Volunteering page of our website for up-to-date information and the volunteering opportunities that are still available. I look forward to helping you meet those networking and PDU goals. Remember volunteer work enhances your resume; not only by demonstrating and enhancing your technical abilities, but by demonstrating to potential employers your dedication and reliability.

Sincerely,
Donna Anders, PMP
